The EU open calls for proposals season is upon us, and the EU Commission’s EU4Health work programme for 2024 offers project grant opportunities. 

Within the currently open calls, the Europe Region’s Member Organisations can consider applying to the Call for Proposals to increase health literacy for cancer prevention and care (EU4Health Annual Work Programme code: CR-g-24-39).

A successful project will increase health literacy of the general population, patients (both targeting all ages and vulnerable groups), and healthcare specialists in the area of cancer prevention and care. The main aim of the proposal is to enable citizens to make informed decisions regarding prevention and screening, and to help patients to take active involvement in treatment. For healthcare specialists, the outcome will be to convey the information in a user/patient-friendly way. 

The expected results include:

• guidelines, recommendations, lessons learnt, best practices on how to increase health literacy in cancer prevention and care;

• information materials to citizens/patients of all ages (focusing on vulnerable populations) and healthcare specialists;

• mapping of sources providing reliable, accurate information on the internet, in easy to understand language;

• training course for healthcare specialists.
