Evidence Based Physiotherapy & Research

Physiotherapy plays a key role in enabling people to maximise their quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing.

Physiotherapy involves the interaction between physiotherapist, patients/clients, other health professionals, families, caregivers, and communities in a process where movement potential is assessed and goals are agreed upon, using knowledge and skills unique to physiotherapists. The foundation for this process should rest on evidence based physiotherapy/evidence based practice (EBP), which constitutes the combined result of research, clinical experience and the opinion of the patient/client as well as cost-benefits.

In this regard, the Europe Region of World Physiotherapy acknowledges the importance of conducting and disseminating research in physiotherapy and, therefore, promotes a research culture among its Member Organisations.
