European Union | Council of the EU: Belgian Presidency

Belgium has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2024, from 1 January to 30 June.

From the 1st of January to the 30th of June of 2024, Belgium has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.


Belgium takes over the Presidency of the Council from Spain. These two countries together with Hungary, which will take over the presidency from 1 July 2024, drew up an action plan to find common solutions to the challenges and tasks ahead.





Preparedness, care and protection will be the three overarching health themes under the Belgian Presidency. The Presidency aims to reinforce crisis management, support healthcare systems and improve the security of medicines supply emphasising the importance of strengthening the EU’s resilience to future health threats.
